Dirac sea effects in K + scattering from nuclei

چکیده
The ratio R T of K + − 12 C to K + − d cross sections has been calculated microscopically using a boson-exchange KN amplitude in which the σ and ω mesons are dressed by the modifications of the Dirac sea in nuclear matter. In spite of the fact that this dressing leads to a scaling of the mesons effective mass in nuclear matter, the effect on the R T ratio is found to be weak.

Causality in Relativistic Many Body Theory
Dirac sea effects are perhaps the most interesting characteristic of relativistic many body theory. In nuclear matter e.g. the effective mass of the nucleons and their coupling to the mesons undergo considerable corrections due to vacuum fluctuations [1], [2]. In addition, relativistic many body theory predicts strong corrections of the properties of hadrons at high nuclear matter densities. Un...
متن کاملSemiclassical Treatment of the Dirac Sea Contribution for Finite Nuclei
Dirac sea corrections for bulk properties of finite nuclei are computed within a self-consistent scheme in the σ-ω model. The valence part is treated in the Hartree approximation whereas the sea contribution is evaluated semiclassically up to fourth order in h̄. Numerically, we find a quick convergence of the semiclassical expansion; the fourth order contributing much less than one percent to th...
متن کامل00 1 Bound states of anti - nucleons in finite nuclei
We study the bound states of anti-nucleons emerging from the lower continuum in finite nuclei within the relativistic Hartree approach including the contributions of the Dirac sea to the source terms of the meson fields. The Dirac equation is reduced to two Schrödinger-equivalent equations for the nucleon and the anti-nucleon respectively. These two equations are solved simultaneously in an ite...
متن کاملFe b 19 97 Progress in the Development of Global Medium - Energy Nucleon - Nucleus Optical Model Potentials
Two existing global medium-energy nucleon-nucleus phenomenological optical model potentials are described and compared with experiment and with each other. The first of these employs a Dirac approach (second-order reduction) that is global in projectile energy and projectile isospin and applies to the target nucleus 208 Pb. Here the standard S-V (isoscalar-scalar, isoscalar-vector) model has be...
متن کاملCoulomb distortion effects in quasi-elastic (e,e’) scattering on heavy nuclei
The influence of the Coulomb distortion for quasi-elastic (e,e’) scattering on highly charged nuclei is investigated in distorted wave Born approximation for electrons. The Dirac equation is solved numerically in order to obtain exact electron continuum states in the electrostatic field generated by the charge distribution of an atomic nucleus. Different approximate models are used to describe ...
